Julia Novikova became known for her portrayal of Gilda in the
television production Rigoletto a Mantova directed by Marco Bellocchio. This groundbreaking production, filmed in its original
locations, was transmitted live to 148 countries and featured Zubin Mehta conducting the opera, with Placido Domingo in the role of
Rigoletto.
Recent highlights in Novikovas career include her performances as
Micaela in Cologne and Violetta in a new production of La Traviata
at Volkstheater Rostock and Theater Erfurt. She also made her
debut at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, captivating
audiences in the role of Musetta. Following her debut as Violetta at
the National Theatre in Prague, she reprised the role at Theater
Dortmund and the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava.
Before transitioning to the lyric repertoire, Novikova has excelled in roles such as Gilda (Maggio musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Komische Oper Berlin) and Zerbinetta (Vienna State Opera, Budapest State Opera, Aalto Theater Essen). Notable highlights also include her performances in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor and Amina in La Sonnambula at Oper Bonn, Musetta in a new production of "La Bohème" at Grand Opera de Genève, the title role in Lakmè in Santiago de Chile, Susanna at Teatro Colon, and the title role in Stravinskys Le rossignol at the Quebec Opera Festival, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Salzburg Festival.
Julia Novikova is the First Prize and Audience Prize winner of OPERALIA 2009, Plácido Domingos The World Opera Competition in Budapest. She pursued her opera singing studies at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in her hometown of St. Petersburg.
